Our D-Camps cater to both forwards and defencemen, aiming to enhance the defensive aspects of the game. Participants will focus on refining backward skating, honing back-checking skills, transitioning with the puck, mastering individual skills and tactics, understanding positional responsibilities, and developing game play awareness. The program places a special emphasis on speed, agility, lateral mobility, shooting technique, and effective puck management.

The significance of speed for defencemen is often overlooked. While defensive prowess typically emphasizes strategic positioning and tactical awareness, the importance of speed cannot be understated. Being swift on the ice allows defencemen to quickly close gaps, thwart opponent attacks, and swiftly transition from defence to offence. Beyond speed, the often underestimated qualities of power and stamina are equally critical. Power ensures the ability to outmuscle opponents, win crucial battles along the boards, and deliver impactful checks. Meanwhile, stamina becomes the linchpin for maintaining peak performance throughout the entire game. As a hockey defenceman, the trifecta of speed, power, and stamina forms the foundation for an effective and well-rounded player on the ice.

HEAD INSTRUCTOR BRAD BROWN:

Brad was drafted 18th overall by the Montreal Canadiens and continued his 8 year NHL career as a stay at home defenceman with the Chicago Blackhawk, New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres and the Minnesota Wild where he served as Captain. His leadership skills and passion for the game make him a great role model on and off the ice. He has been running his D-Camps in Ottawa for over 10 years and is eager to pass on what he learned through his experiences as a professional hockey player.
