Gold Medal Season for U10 Majors

2013-07-04

Four gold medals and two silver medals in six tournaments this season

The U10 Majors had an extremely successful 2013 Spring Season, finishing first in four out of six tournaments, and as the finalist in the other two. The abundance of hardware just exemplifies the skill, drive and determination of this group of 2002 female hockey players from Ottawa.

Another banner season for the U10 Major Maplesoft Hawks hockey team.  This group of girls dominated the hockey scene this spring, with four championships, and two finalists in what has been their most successful spring hockey season since they started playing together three years ago.  The season started in Niagara Falls where they probably faced their toughest competition of the season, playing the Wizards from the GTA, finishing in second place.  Next was Outaouais where they turned things around, easily clinching first place.  The team went into a bit of a mid season slump, having difficulty finding the net, but still managed to finish in the finalist position in the Little Sens tournament.  On to Burlington, things turned around, and the girls found their groove, successfully going undefeated against some very strong teams (Lady Dawgs and Green Gloves), and successfully clinching another championship.  The team then ventured south of the border, and playing up in the U12 Division in the Summer Splash tournament in Boston MA.  Again, the girls played extremely well, going through the tournament undefeated and claimed their 3rd gold medal of the season.  The U10 Maplesoft Hawks capped off their season by participating in their own tournament, the Canada Day Cup.  They saw some tough competition, going up against a Quebec all star team (combination of Montreal and Quebec City) where they finished in a 1-1 draw in the round robin.  They met again in the finals and after an extremely tough battle, the Hawks reigned supreme, ending on a high by successfully capturing their fourth and final championship of the season.
By the numbers;  the team played 35 games, finishing with an impressive 27-5-3 record.  They had an astonishing 154 goals for, and only 36 goals against.  In six tournaments, they finished with 4 gold medals and 2 silver.
As the coach, it has been an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to lead such a brilliant and talented group of young hockey players.  It has been a great season both on, and off the ice, with the greatest fans, and best parent group in all of hockey making the season that much more enjoyable.  A big thank you to the coaching staff as well, including Ryan, Dave, Sandy and Christal for all their support and effort throughout the season.
The Girls 2002 Maplesoft Hawks are a team full of potential, and with each day they only get better.  I can hardly wait until next season to see what new challenges they can overcome.  GO HAWKS GO!!

Coach Shane
